Mayberry Melonpool is the television-addicted, somewhat clumsy, not-all-that-intelligent Captain of the "Steel Duck." Oh yeah, and he's obsessed with getting a date. In short, he doesn't have a lot going for him.
Ralph Zinobop is the inventor of the "Steel Duck." He is eager to enter the next phase of his plan: to make money off his inventions to regain his rightful place as ruler of the Planet Zinobop — a planet that he was exiled from by his paranoid father several years ago. His other hobbies include wild get-get-rich schemes and drinking copious amounts of coffee. He also has a terrible temper.
Sam T. Dogg is completely out of his element. He’s super intelligent, a highly-skilled pilot and has the most common sense of anyone aboard the "Steel Duck." Also, no one takes him seriously because he’s a dog.
Sammy the Hammy is a genetic experiment gone horribly awry. Sammy is part of the ship’s equipment (he’s the engine) as well as a member of the crew. For this reason, Ralph never bothered giving him a name and he remained known as “Hamster 42” for much of his life.
Originally named "Hamster 13," Tammy is the former engineer of Roberta's ship, The "Blue Bird." She's much smarter than any other of Ralph's giant hamsters, but was horribly-burned saving the rest of the crew. She currently is encased in a block of Carbonite, awaiting medical treatment.
So the snail Lord guys blew up the BH’s so he didn’t need to pay them? Smart move.
And why do I have a Zapp Brannigan vibe from the guy that took away Roberta and Ralphie?
So, Johnny Space Commander predates Zapp Brannigan by about 10 years (I created him in 1996, just before starting Melonpool online). They are essentially the same character though.
The story so far — and this will be recapped in a few weeks — goes like this:
1. Ralph abandons Ralphie and Mayberry
2. Ralphie and Mayberry are picked up by Stag Nasty.
3. Mayberry calls Roberta for help.
4. Mayberry calls Eileen for help.
5. Johnny Space Commander finds out from Eileen about Mayberry.
6. Roberta captured by Stag Nasty, leaving the ZSC-2 without a commander.
7. Johnny Space Commander attacks Stag Nasty.
8. Johnny Space Commander mistakenly puts Mayberry aboard the ZSC-2 and takes Ralphie and Roberta, to get the bounty from the Slime Lord.
9. Mayberry crashes the ZSC-2.
I think it’s all there in the comics. I know it’s complicated! Haha!
Aaaaand… we got (another) whiplash twist! 😀
Whoa, this is new. I mean how difficult can Tammy be to handle? 🙂
Aw, no (visible) “Engine” on her shirt.
😉
Now this is a new dynamic. And, storywise, could make for a new dynamic. 😉
…Does that hamster have breasts?
[“…Does that hamster have breasts?”]
“Does that female mammal have developed mammary glands?”
Why yes. Yes she does. 😀
The faint blue text is a nice touch!
Ungh. My color blindness is getting worse I couldn’t even see that blue text. Maybe I should stop coloring these strips.
A hamster cuddling a cat. Really, this is all this comic needed. But I certainly won’t complain about going above and beyond!
The question isn’t whether the female mammal has breasts, it’s how *many pairs* of breasts. But, family comic . . .

Looks like Roberta is more practical and didn’t waste time to name her Engineer.
